HERAEUS KULZER
Signum
metal® bond
An everlasting bond
Signum metal® bond is a new cold bonding system purpose
developed by Heraeus Kulzer for coupling composites and
acrylics to metal surfaces. Due to its special material
composition, the novel "2 bottle system" achieves
up to 300% more bond strength and provides the user with
above average security.
Thanks to its special material composition, the new Signum
metal bond from Heraeus research offers outstandingly
high shear and adhesive strength and long-term stability.
Its bond strength, especially under stress, is extraordinary,
be it with non-precious or precious alloys. This high
strength is achieved with so-called Interface Coupling
Technology, the exact interaction of both Signum metal
bond components I and II.
What
is Interface Coupling Technology? So-called bifunctional
adhesive molecules, one of the ingredients of Signum metal
bond I, anchor themselves to the surface of the metal.
The reactive cross-linking molecules of metal bond II
search for compatible reaction partners and form a strong
chemical bond with the bifunctional adhesive molecules
- according to the lock-and-key principle. In so-called
"Interface Coupling", the reactive component
is activated by light curing. The bond between veneer
and metal or acrylic and cobalt chrome denture base is
all but inseparable. The restoration is therefore extremely
durable. Opaquer and dentine complete the veneer´s build-up.
Applications
for Signum metal bond:
Bonding composite to metal surfaces
Bonding to cobalt chrome denture surfaces
Bonding to root canal posts and Maryland bridges
Bonding composite to repaired veneers
Signum
metal bond is easier and faster to use than heat-cured
or sandblasting systems. This new bonding agent fits perfectly
into the Signum system and is suited superbly for use
with Signum composite.
Signum
metal bond is available as a set (metal bond I and II),
or a refill. Similar to other systems, both components
are applied with a brush, where the first component is
allowed to air-dry and the second component is polymerised
in a light-curing unit. The second
component is pre-pigmented, similar to an opaquer. Opaquer
and veneering material are then built up in the usual
manner.
